Common Toad
Of the three European species of toad, the common toad is one of only two found in the British Isles, the other being the much rarer natterjack toad Bufo calamita. All three species (the third being the green toad Bufo viridis) have warty skins and horizontal pupils, are largely terrestrial and nocturnal, and assemble in large numbers in their breeding ponds.
